How do we upgrade to version 5?
For performing the upgrade to version 5, you have to download the installation file bestinformed.exe from our Download area and run it. Existing records will be adopted automatically. Before performing the upgrade we recommend to create a database backup. Further information regarding serverupdates can be found in the documentation of Version 4 in chapter "Server Update and Relocation". After the installation was completed you have to stop the Infoserver and copy the new licence-key for Version 5 to the installation directory. (The download includes a 30 days full version) Afterwards restart the server again. For upgrading the clients, we recommend to use the integrated Cordaware Autoupdate function, however every other popular software distribution can be used as well.
We are Cordaware Support customers. Can we upgrade to version 5 for free?
Yes, for Cordaware Support customers (customers, who have an active Support and Software Assurance), the upgrade to version 5 is free of charge.
Is it possible to encrypt the connection between Infoserver and Infoclient?
Yes, if required a SSL protected connection between Server and Client is possible.
Will the update cause a losing of my recorded data ?
No, your data will be adopted. But with the new version of the internal database a downgrade isnīt possible.
Can the Infoclient also runs on other, not Microsoft-based, operating systems?
Yes, in our Download area is an enhanced version of the Javaclient available.
Is bestinformed Version 5 compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008?
Yes.
Is it possible to run an Infoserver of Version 5 in combination with Infoclients of Version 4?
Yes, an upgrade of all clients is not compulsory. However, certain new features can only be used with the new client. To run the client under Windows 7, version 5 is necessary.
Is it possible to integrate the existing data (groups, templates etc.) from bestinformed 4 without extra effort?
Yes, the existing structure will be automatically applied when exchanging the server.
Is the old licence-key compatible with Version 5?
No, you will receive a new license-key.
